Wave Shoaling is an experimental app for estimating near-shore water depth from phone video.

Data Used by the App

Wave Shoaling may use:

• Camera video recorded by the user
• Videos selected from the user’s photo library
• Floating ball tracking data generated from the video
• Ball diameter entered by the user
• Phone motion and orientation data, such as pitch and roll, for camera tilt correction

How the Data Is Used

This data is used only to estimate wave motion, distance, amplitude, period, and near-shore water depth. Motion sensor data is used only to improve camera-angle correction.

Data Storage

Wave Shoaling processes measurement data on the device. The app does not sell user data.

Third-Party Sharing

Wave Shoaling does not sell personal data to third parties.

Limitations

Wave Shoaling is an educational and experimental tool. It is not intended for navigation, marine safety, emergency use, or certified surveying.
